April’s Featured Business
NDorrien Designs
1. What is your business?
NDorrien Designs is a handmade card and hand painted silk craft business.
2. Tell me about yourself, your buns.
My name is Nancy and I am making the transition from being an admin to a massage therapist (yes, the bunnies are super thankful I practice on them LOL!) I have been a bunny owner for a loooong time. My Rainbow Bridge bunnies are Clover, Henrietta, Honey, Milk, Oats and Peppermint. I have two younger bunnies who were rescued as well, Lacey and Clover . All I can say is they all had/have different personalities but they all hold Master’s Degrees in Bunstruction and Treat Begging.
3. What inspired you to start your business?
My background is graphic design and when I left the field, I was looking for different crafts to make for a creative outlet. I still haven’t tried everything I want to, but I really love painting silk and making cards.
4. How is your business unique?
The one thing that I do a bit differently with silk paint is I use the traditional techniques but then combine it with some of the techniques I learned from using Copic markers. What I do know is that nothing I ever made looks the same, even if I make a few of them.
5. How long have you been doing this?
I have been doing this as a business for about 8 years.
6. What does a typical work day look like?
Since I work full time, I craft on the weekends, evenings or when I have off from work.
7. What is your biggest challenge?
Time. I always feel like I need way more time and another set of hands! Another challenge is to find the best way to get my work out there for people to see.
8. What is your most popular item?
Painting silk with people’s pets.
9. What advice would you give to an aspiring entrepreneur?
Keep going. Keep trying new things and don’t be afraid to change things up. Also, know there are going to be ups and downs but that is all part of it.
10. Where can someone purchase your products?
I will be attending Northeast Bunfest in PA on June 16. Also, please see my Instagram page for the link to the square store. One of my favorite things to create are personalized bunny (or other pets) silk bags, scarves and cards. For a custom order, please send me either a message through Instagram (ndorriendesigns) or email me at ndorrien@gmail.com
If you have a rabbit related small business, or know someone who does, I am looking to feature a different entrepreneur each month. When you come across a business that fills your need, or you are inclined to gravitate towards, I ask that you please spread the word about them. In this day and age it is very hard for small businesses to stay competitive and we need to show them our support.
Check out the resource page for a list of rabbit related businesses!
