Astrology has been practiced in various cultures and forms for thousands of years. If you are unfamiliar with astrology, it is the study of the connection between the positions and movements of celestial bodies, such as stars and planets, at the time, date and location of your birth. The premise is that the positions of these objects can determine character, behavior, and destiny.
Most people know of their zodiac sign and many often look up their horoscopes in newspapers, magazines, and websites for daily or monthly predictions. However, astrology is much deeper and more complicated than that. There are several facets of astrology used to make accurate interpretations.
Astrology
Zodiac Signs: Astrology divides the sky into 12 segments, each associated with one of the zodiac signs. The signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. A person’s zodiac sign is determined by the position of the Sun at their time of birth.

Birth Charts: Astrologers can create a personalized birth chart, also known as a natal chart, for any individual (human or animal). This will show the positions of the Sun, Moon, planets, and other celestial objects at the time of birth. These can then be used to help interpret temperament and personality. You do need to know your birthdate, birth time and location for accuracy.
Planets: In astrology there are specific meanings and characteristics associated with each of the planets in our solar system, including Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.
Aspects: Astrologers consider the angles (aspects) between celestial bodies in a birth chart to determine their influence on a person’s life and personality. Common aspects include conjunctions, sextiles, squares, trines, and oppositions.
Houses: The birth chart is divided into 12 sections called houses, each of which represents different life areas, such as career, relationships, and family. The position of celestial objects in these houses is thought to influence various aspects of a person’s life. (the 6th house indicates a close relationship with small pets- if your moon is in the 6th house it suggests a close emotional bond. If Uranus is there, your relationship could be with exotic pets such as a rabbit. Pluto in the 6th house could indicate a desire for rescue work.)

The Elements of Astrology
There are 4 elements in astrology: fire, earth air and water. Each zodiac sign falls under one of these elements.
Fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius and are representative of Summer. Fire signs tend to be independent, confident, passionate and temperamental.
Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn and are representative of Autumn. Earth signs tend to be grounded, practical, driven and stable.
Air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius and are representative of Spring. Air signs tend to be social, intellectual, full of action and movement.
Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces and are representative of Winter. Water signs tend to be emotional, intuitive, nurturing and imaginative.
Your Bun’s Astrology
In order to find your rabbits astrological signs (sun, moon and rising) you will need to know their birthdate, location of birth and ideally the time. There are a number of websites that offer free birth chart reports such as Astrolabe. You can use these for yourself as well!
For example, my oldest bun Grilly was born on August 9, 2013. I know the location however I don’t know the time. Based on this info his sun sign is Leo, moon sign is Virgo and rising sign is Libra. Grilly is totally representative of all 3 of his houses!
On the other hand, his daughter Onyx was born on March 11, 2014. She is a Pisces (sun) with her moon in Cancer and rising sign in Gemini. Onyx is a total Pisces, however she does not fit the basic description for her moon or rising sign. This could be due to the fact that I did not have her time of birth. Unfortunately I don’t have the information needed to have my other buns charts done.

The Signs of Astrology
Aries (March 21 – April 19)
In astrology, Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. Rabbits born under this sign tend to be leaders and will thrive being the alpha. They are energetic, love action and are often full of excitement. They are smart, playful, and high-spirited. They may show signs of courage. Aries buns can also be headstrong, pushy, curious and impulsive. They may become stubborn if they don’t get enough attention from you. The Aries bun can be loyal and have a loving spirit.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
Taurus buns have a lot of will power. You will need patience and perseverance with this rabbit. Although they do love affection, it has to be on their terms when they seek it out. These buns love to sprawl out and sunbathe as they do enjoy relaxing. They are fond of creature comforts and enjoy soft music, (I recommend YouTube) love food and snacks and don’t like change so do not rearrange their living quarters!
These buns can be seen as lazy as they are not fond of exercising….don’t be surprised if these buns don’t display zoomies too often! (but keep a watch on their weight as they tend to pack it on during the adult years). The Taurus bun has a loving disposition and they are extremely loyal.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
Gemini buns have two sides to their personality and their mood can shift quickly. They are intelligent, but can be easily distracted. These buns are friendly, fun loving, playful and love diversity. They benefit from having a lot of toys and enrichment. (I have a lot of fun items listed in the merc for this!) The Gemini bun is an energetic and curious bun which can get them into some mischief!
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
Cancer buns are highly sensitive, timid and anxious. They require lots of attention and reassurance. Loud noises are upsetting to them as they prefer a more quiet setting. You may want to read about how to navigate holidays with your rabbit as a preventative measure. Because of their sensitivity they do not like to be scolded…if you do admonish them they will sulk. But don’t fret, bunnies don’t hold grudges too long!
These buns will move at their own speed. The Cancer bun is also affectionate, loving, nurturing and extremely loyal. They are deeply devoted of their human parents and their nurturing behavior which makes them good companions to other pets. In return, they like to be pampered and cuddled and crave attention. These buns love their naps and snacks and are not fans of exercising!
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
Leo buns are proud, regal, and loyal. Loving the spotlight, they can also be theatrical and highly communicative. This sign is strong, magnanimous, energetic and playful. They can be fiercely protective of their habitat. Leo’s are friendly and loving, demanding their owner’s attention 24 hours a day if there are other pets in the household. They also have a good memory, as do most rabbits.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
Virgo’s enjoy being loved. They are a social rabbit and can remain calm even in stressful situations which make them great companions. They are very smart and easy to train in areas like using a litter box. At times they can be particularly demanding preferring to play rather than to be snuggled. These buns thrive with a set routine and should follow a strict diet so as to not get gastrointestinal issues. Virgo rabbits are a cleanly rabbit therefore don’t mind being groomed.
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
Libra buns are extremely loving becoming very attached to their humans as well as other pets. They may follow you around and prefer sleeping near you. They are very affectionate and will go to great lengths to please you. Libra rabbits can be insecure as well as nervous therefore preferring company rather than being alone.
They value peace and quiet over action enjoy and can be restless and uncomfortable in a stressful or chaotic environment. The Libra buns thrive with a balanced life, clear boundaries and structure. Very intelligent creatures with short attention spans, it is better to teach them over many short sessions than one longer one.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)
Scorpio’s are headstrong, independent, proud and obstinate. These qualities can make it challenging to train them even though they are very intelligent. Although they do like their alone time, they also love to be fawned over so give them lots of attention. It can take them a while to build trust, but when they do, they will be loyal for life. Scorpio buns have a lot of curiosity making them both entertaining and mischievous.
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)
Sagittarius is the happy and outgoing bun. These rabbits have lots of energy and need room to roam. (They can be accident prone due to their energetic nature) Sags are very happy outside so plan on creating an outdoor playtime habitat. They love to be with their person all of the time and love to be loved. This makes them prone to separation anxiety especially when you go off to work or on a vacation…they do make great travelling companions though so you may want to take them on vaca with you!
Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)
Capricorn buns are grounded and disciplined. They are not a lazy lot making them generally easy to train. Caps are very routine oriented so it is important stick to a schedule with them. These buns can be stubborn at times not liking to be disturbed. These will be a dedicated bun to you.
Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)
Aquarians are intelligent, very loving, extremely social and outgoing with people and other pets. They are gentle creatures that are able to sense your moods. However, they are also very independent and can be unpredictable. They do like their alone time to rest and recharge. Aquarius buns don’t like to be bored so it is good to have a new toy at the ready. These rabbits do love their food too!
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
Pisces, the last sign in astrology, rabbits are very sensitive, sweet gentle souls making them loving pets as well as excellent therapy rabbits. These buns love being close to their humans receiving lots of cuddles, following them around and even sleeping with them. They are loyal for life.
The Pisces bun benefits from a peaceful environment. They don’t require a lot of space, but do enjoy luxury. Because of their sensitivity, if they find themselves in a stressful setting, they will retreat to a quiet place so it is important for them to have a special spot. They can also be curious making them accident prone.
Astrology, while interesting and fun, should never be used as a serious way to understand or predict your pet rabbit’s behavior or characteristics. Instead, you should learn about your bun through observation and interaction with them. Spending time together, providing for their needs and loving them will ultimately strengthen your bond. If you notice any behavioral problems, you should consult your exotic vet for advice.
