1. What is your business?
Teacup Nethies is a small Australian business that creates handmade fleece liners and accessories for rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small pets. We also offer a range of toys and treats to help keep little pets happy, healthy, and entertained.
2. Tell me about yourself, your buns
I’m Elise, the maker behind Teacup Nethies. My husband James and I run the business along with 3 energetic kids and a house full of fur babies. I started this journey with a couple of very spoilt bunnies who quickly showed me how little was available that was both safe and stylish. Our current buns are just as cheeky and very much part of the product-testing team—if they don’t approve, it doesn’t get made!
3. What inspired you to start your business?
It began as a personal solution. I was pregnant, stuck in bed, and desperate for a better way to keep my rabbits clean, dry, and comfortable. I made my first fleece liner for them—and never looked back. From there, it grew into a business fueled by passion and necessity.
4. How is your business unique?
We handmake everything ourselves, right here on the Mid North Coast of NSW. Our liners are thoughtfully designed using premium materials that are absorbent, odor-reducing, and machine washable. We focus on quality, comfort, and practicality—without compromising on cuteness.
5. How long have you been doing this?
Teacup Nethies first began in 2016, but it wasn’t until 2019 that we relaunched full-time after a break due to illness. Since then, it’s grown into something much bigger than we ever imagined.
6. What does a typical work day look like?
This is now a full-time business, so my days are packed! I usually start by checking orders, cutting fabric, sewing, packing parcels, and responding to customer messages—all while juggling family life with our three kids.
7. What is your biggest challenge?
Balancing everything—mum life, business, and making sure our products meet the high standards we’ve become known for. Handmade means every piece takes time and care, and sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day.
8. What are your most popular products?
Our fleece liners are hands-down the most popular. They’re super absorbent, reduce odor, and are reusable—saving money and mess long-term. Our cuddle sacks and beds also fly out the door, especially in cooler weather.
9. What advice would you give to an aspiring entrepreneur?
Start small, but start. Learn as you go, stay true to your values, and don’t be afraid to stand out. It’s hard work, but if you love what you do, it’s absolutely worth it.
