There is nothing more inspiring than a young entrepreneur. Starting, managing and growing a business takes a lot of skill that you might not associate with a teenager. However for those kids that are successful at it, entrepreneurship can help to encourage growth mindset, curiosity, problem solving skills and instill self-confidence.
Hazel is owner, designer and marketer of Homemade by Hazell, which is quite a feat for a teenager still going to school. I am so happy to feature this hardworking teen with a heart and I hope you will support her and her business. From product to packaging to promoting, she does it all beautifully.
This shop was formerly known as wags and tags. Hazel’s associates are Queenie, the official black lab collie mix mascot, and Maple and Clover who are product testers! She states “All small pet treats are made of fresh ingredients and dried to perfection”.

1. What is your business?
Homemade by Hazell offers all sorts of items from snuffle mats to forage!
2. Tell me about yourself, your buns.
I am a teen entrepreneur who has a love for animals and business. I have two lop rabbits Maple and Clover who are father and daughter.
3. What inspired you to start your business?
All the dogs in my neighborhood.
4. How is your business unique?
I design every product with the intention of making simple and safe ingredient based items. Every item is made by me and tested by my animals.
5. How long have you been doing this?
Since June of 2020.
6. What does a typical work day look like?
In the summer, all the time everyday. I am a full time student so during school season, whenever I can make time.
7. What is your biggest challenge?
Trying not to compare myself to others.
8. What is your most popular product?
Palm leaf plates/bowls or forage.
9. What advice would you give to an aspiring entrepreneur?
I know it can be hard, but don’t give up. I say that will all seriousness I wanted to give up several times but didn’t. Find a support group for you, I wouldn’t be here without mine.
